Police Press Release: Last of six pledged vehicles delivered to police and prison service

    Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 27, 2016, 2015 (RSCNPF):  In a brief ceremony on Friday (May 27) the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security Mr. Osmond Petty accepted on behalf of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis the last two of six pledged vehicles from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). 

     

    The ceremony was attended by representatives from Embassy of The Republic of China (Taiwan), the Ministry of National Security and the Police and Prison Services.  The Police and Prison Services were the designated beneficiaries of the donation.

    One Ford truck which was specifically modified for use as a prisoner transport was received by the Prison Service. The vehicle has three separate compartments in which prisoners can be seated.  The design of the vehicle also provides for security and privacy in transport.  
     
    The Police service received a multi-purpose extended cab pick-up truck to add to its general service fleet.  
     
    Superintendent of Prisons Junie Hodge said, "the gift was timely, and now allows the service to transport prisoners to court, the hospital and other locations in greater privacy."  He added, "with three compartments, it adds to greater security when transporting the prisoners".  The Prison Superintendent also expressed the gratitude of the Prison Service to Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).  
     
    Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security Mr. Osmond Petty expressed thanks on behalf of the Government, 'we thank the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their continued support to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Their continued commitment in assisting us with the resources needed to build stronger National Security departments is greatly appreciated." 
     
    Mr. Petty noted that the ROC (Taiwan) has been a major contributor to the Police Service in the past, and highlighted past gifts of Police vehicles, and other equipment to the various agencies within the Ministry of National Security.
