BASSETERRE, St. KITTS - FLOW 4G Cayon Rockets held off a very strong challenge from defending champions S.L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s  last evening (May 28) to eke out a nil-all draw at Warner Park Football Stadium.

With the draw, Cayon have progressed to the Championship playoffs where they will take on SOL Island Auto Conaree.

Entering last evening’s encounter, both teams knew what was at stake and what they had to produce on the field, with desperately in need of a win to meet with SOL Island Auto Conaree while Cayon only need a draw.

Neither team could have broken the deadlock at the time of the final whistle blast even though they each had created goal scoring opportunities.

However, that was enough to have the two neighbouring district battle it out for bragging rights and the trophy.

In the first game of the doubleheader evening encounter, Winners Circle Newtown United held Conaree to a nil-all draw.

The draw had given Newtown their first point in the Final Four Playoffs after they went down in their two other encounters to Conaree and St. Paul’s.

Newtown was the top seed in the playoffs after producing dominating performances throughout the 2015/2016 league.

Conaree, on the other hand, topped the playoffs with seven points after they defeated Cayon 2-1 and a 3-2 victory over St. Paul’s.

In a recent statement, President of the SKNFA Anthony Johnson had indicated his pleasure at the turnout for the first leg of the playoffs.

“I think we have very passionate support...large turnout,” he said.

The championship matches will begin on June 10, continue on the 14th and the third game, if necessary, will be play on the 17th. These dates were chosen to facilitate the national team second round of the Caribbean Cup.
