BASSETERRE, ST. Kitts - LEGENDARY sprinter Kim Collins has yet again lifted the Federation to higher athletic heights when he turned back the clock to win the 100m sprint in Bottrop, Germany, while setting a new personal best and World Masters record in the process.

Collins clocked 9.93s to eclipse his previous best of 9.96s to become the first man over 40 years to go under 10 seconds in a 100 meters race.

Addressing reporters at his monthly press conference today (May 30), Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris commended legendary athlete on his historic performance.

“The Cabinet wants to commend Kim Collins on what has been another superb performance. We congratulate him and all those who worked with him.”

Collins, known for his good performance on the track over the last two years both at the indoor and outdoor levels, shot to fame in 2003 when he dominated the field at the World Championship in Paris, France to win the title.

He had clocked 10.07 seconds to win the world title. According to Athleticsweekly.com, Collins has been talking a lot about running a sub-10s.

This comes as the Olympic Games in Brazil is just over two months away, and he would be looking to stamp his authority there, since many believe it may be his last at that level.

“I am advised and want to believe that he is the first person over the age of 35 to run a time better than 10s,” PM Harris said.

Born on April 5, 1976, Collins has amassed a total of five World Outdoor Championship medals – one gold and four bronze.

Those medals came in the 100m, 200m and the 4x100m Relay, while at the Indoor level he won two silver medals over the 60m sprint.

He is also the holder of a Pan American silver medal along with a Commonwealth gold that he copped in 2002.

It was just last year the Government of National Unity recognized him by renaming the Silver Jubilee Stadium the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium.
