BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - LOCAL cricket fans will soon have something to cheer about as the long sports season continues with the hosting of the Indian cricket team on St. Kitts and Nevis in August.
According to information issued by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), the Federation will play host to two practice matches in a seven-week Indian tour of the Caribbean that would see the visitors playing four test matches.
This is the first time the two teams will play in a bilateral series since the West Indies controversially abandoned their Indian tour in 2014 which saw them leave during the ODI series.
The Indians will play a two-day warm-up match from July 9-10, followed by a three-day match from July 14-16.
These matches come on the heels of the Federation hosting three matches in the West Indies Tri-series tournament involving Australia and South Africa, and the staging of the 2016 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
On a recent visit to the Warner Park facility, SKNVibes had observed construction workers giving the venue a facelift in preparation for the hosting of the Tri-series.
The St. Kitts and Nevis leg of the series gets underway on June 11with Australia taking on South Africa. Other matches are scheduled for June 13 and 15.
All matches in the series are Day and Night encounters beginning at 13:00; the first game bowls off tomorrow (June 3) in Guyana at the Providence Stadium.
Below is the schedule for the Indian tour of the Caribbean.
• Two day – July 9-10 in St. Kitts;
• Three day – July 4-16 in St. Kitts;
• Test 1 - July 21-25 in Antigua;
• Test 2 - July 30 - August 3 in Jamaica; and
• Test 3 – August 9-13 in St. Lucia.
