Conaree draw first blood in Playoffs Final

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -  SOL Island Auto Conaree sit one win away from being crowned Champions of the SKNFA National Playoffs after they easily disposed of Flow 4G Cayon Rockets 2-0 last evening (Jun. 10) in the first game of the finals at Warner Park.

Playing at a fast pace before a capacity crowd, both teams showed intent that they meant business at the blast of the first whistle blew. However, tight defending from both teams ensured that the score remained nil-all through the first 20 minutes of the game.

Conaree however erred in their defence and their opponents were awarded a free kick several yards outside the box, but that opportunity went awry as the striker could only managed to curled the ball over the wall and into the safe hands of the goalkeeper.

Another opportunity was created; this time by Conaree but the shot miss was no danger to the goalkeeper.

With one minute added on to the clock, a clumsy challenge by the Cayon defenders resulted in one of Conaree’s forward players was brought down inside the penalty box, to which the referee wasted little time in signalling the ‘to the spot’.

Errol O'Loughlin stepped up and easily tapped home the shot, as the goalkeeper was caught going in the opposite direction.

Early in the second half, a ‘silly’ challenge resulted in Cayon being awarded a penalty and Kevin Benjamin took the shot, but it was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper which brought the sea of green and gold in the stadium in frenzy.

Conaree sealed the deal in the 78th minute with their second goal coming off the boot of Marvin Charles as they look forward to the second in the best-of-three games slated for the same venue tomorrow (Jun. 12).
