By: EMU, Press Release

(EMU) – St. Kitts, June 13, 2016: The Pre-Service Training Course, formerly known as the Teacher’s Induction Course was officially launched on Monday June 13th at the Multipurpose Classroom of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.

Under the theme; ‘Today’s Vision, Tomorrow’s Reality, Looking to the Future,’ the 2016 training course is aimed at preparing prospective teachers with the skills and strategies necessary for the teaching profession.

From a selection pool of eighty-plus applicants the Ministry of Education selected approximately forty individuals to commence this journey.  Speaking on behalf of the Ministry, Mr. Darryl Lloyd, Deputy Chief Education Officer stated, “Today we have close to forty persons who have advanced; after this week of induction course, they would be sitting a literacy and numeracy test, on Monday and Tuesday.

On Friday we are going to take part in the Early Childhood March, we believe that we are all educators and we need to support one another.  The following week would be the final round of interviews, in which we would use past education officers and past educators (as interviewers).”

New additions to the training course this year include a five person team that has been put in place to guide the inductees on this journey, which comprises past educators who have since moved on from the teaching profession to other positions in Education.  The facilitators are expected to present on the topics which includes; ‘discipline in the classroom’, ‘lesson planning’, ‘the teacher as a professional’ as well as ‘classroom management’.

While expressing words of encouragement and sincere gratitude to the prospective teachers, Mr. Daryl Lloyd declared, “I want to encourage you to help us share the vision that every child can succeed.  We recognize that children have different needs as a result of varying interests, impairments and attitudes, I implore you, once you are employed to work together to support the Principal of the school as well as your colleagues and to make a positive difference in the life of every child.”

At the end of the course and interviews, the Ministry will select the preferred candidates and inform them accordingly.
