BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THIS year’s Music Festival celebration will stretch beyond the 23rd–25th June to incorporate a wide range of activities allowing for as many persons as possible to enjoy a piece of the action.

The 20th St. Kitts Music Festival will feature top local acts, including Nicha-B, Shanna and the Small Axe Band, and international acts such as Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley of Jamaica, the O’Jays of the USA, 50 Cent of the USA and Tarrus Riley of Jamaica.

But as was explained at a recent press conference by Chairman of the St. Kitts Music Festival Committee Faron Lawrence, the Festival provides a host of other activities which began last evening (Jun. 15) and would run into the final day of the event.

Last evening was the Sprat Net Lime at Sprat Net in Old Road and this evening an activity dubbed Ladies’ Night will be held at the Mojitos Lounge on Port Zante.

The Music Festival Downtown Fair and Open Mic is slated for tomorrow and will act as the official commencement of the final countdown to the hosting of the 20th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival.

Lawrence said the action continues on Saturday (Jun. 18) with the Music Festival Bar Crawl through the island. He said the Music Fest ambassadors and friends would be on hand for the “exciting high-energy” event which would culminate at the Frigate Bay Strip and Vibes Beach Bar.

Two events are scheduled for Father’s Day (Jun. 19) - the Music Festival DJ Mix Competition at Breeze Bar and a Father’s Day Fest at the Frigate Bay Strip.

The Committee Chairman informed that one day before the Music Festival officially begins (Jun. 22), all performers for the Thursday night show would be arriving in St. Kitts as well as Crucial Bankie’s band which would be performing on the following evening.

Also on June 22, a Homegrown Concern will be held at the Independence Square and will feature the Grand Masters Band, Island Expressions, Mr. Bagnall and Team Bagnall, Harmony and Rucas, among others.

“This concert is being put on to showcase the various local talent we have on the island and, of course, you would appreciate not everyone could be on the big stage but we wanted a stage big enough to hold some of these local artistes that we have on the island. We want to encourage the general public to come into Independence Square,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence did indicate that more information on this event would be released but informed that it would begin in the early evening.

And as much as the auxiliary activities are exciting and appreciated, nothing compares to the actual three-night Music Festival event which would be held at Warner Park. The curtains will open at 8:00 p.m. nightly.

Discontinued a number of years ago, the Lunch Time Concerts have been reinstated to this year’s Music Festival activities and will be held in the daytime of Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Independence Square.

The Music Fest Chairman said this is being done to give “visitors something to do during the day”.

And the Bank Street Cricket Fest will be held on June 24.

“I want to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to come out and support your festival. You should be very proud of this 20 year achievement and we should show that appreciation by coming out in our numbers to support everything that is being done over the next couple of weeks,” Lawrence admonished.
