BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOLLOWING last month’s promotion of five Inspectors to Acting Superintends and two Inspectors confirmed in that rank as well as eight Sergeants (SGTS) promoted to Acting Inspectors, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has announced the confirmation of two officers in their current ranks and the elevation of 12 others, among whom are female and her sibling.

A police communiqué stated that a promotion ceremony was held today (Jun. 17) at Force Headquarters on Lozack Road, Basseterre, where two Acting SGTS were confirmed in their rank, six Corporals (CPLS) promoted to Ag. SGTS and six Constables promoted to CPLS.

The two Substantive SGTS are Tressy Morrishaw and Ray Gordon, whose confirmation has taken effect from May 1, 2016.

Those promoted to Ag. SGTS are CPLS Jasper Carty, Winston Thompson, Treveron Richards, Dwight Davis, Paula Hodge-Jacobs and Matthew McGuire; while Constables Jerry Watt, Kishorn Charles, Valon Hodge, Marvin Thompson, Kaygel Jefferson and Derell Boon were promoted to Ag. Cpls, effective June 1, 2016.

The selection process for promotion, according to the communiqué, was transparent and competitive in which all eligible officers were encouraged to apply for consideration in the filling of vacant slots.

Also, each candidate had appeared before and interviewed by a panel as part of the process.

Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley congratulated the newly-promoted officers and reminded them that with the increased authority comes greater accountability.

He also reminded them to take care of their subordinates, to lead them by example and to embracing the highest standards of service.

On behalf of the High Command and all ranks of the Force, Commissioner Queeley extended congratulations to the families of the newly-promoted and encouraged them to continue to give of their best “as we strive to make the Federation a safer place to live, work and do business”.

Meanwhile, it is believed that history during the promotion ceremony when CPL Paula Hodge-Jacobs was promoted to Ag. SGT and her younger brother, Constable Valon Hodge was promoted to Ag. CPL.

According to the communiqué, no one at the ceremony could bring to memory a past ceremony in which two siblings were promoted.

Both of them hail from St. Paul’s Village and had gained their education at the St. Paul’s Primary School and the former Sandy Point High School.

Commenting on their achievements, Hodge said: “It really feels great to be selected for promotion, and even more special knowing that Paula was also selected. Looking at her in the ceremony was a sense of pride, knowing that here we are together climbing the ladder in our chosen field. Telling our family that we were both selected was an overwhelming and memorable experience.”
