Teams satisfied with SKNFA season

Pledge to come better next year

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - DESPITE their penalty defeat at the hands of Flow 4G Cayon Rockets, coach of the Sol Island Auto Conaree team Alexis Morris is happy with his team’s season and is already looking forward to the 2016/2017 League.

Addressing reporters recently, Morris described his team’s calendar as being “tremendous” coming off of a lengthy season that began in 2015, which saw them and others playing three rounds of matches.

“We were able to bring in new guys into fray and give other guys a chance to wet their feet in the games, and we did that in the first and second round. We were also able to amass quite a number of points during those rounds and we would have lost just about three matches during those rounds. And we came back during the third round which is the real test and we did a tremendous job.”

The coach also noted that they went through the playoffs undefeated and won the opening game in the best-of-three championship; a feat that many teams would be happy with, but that his men were unable to cross the finish line and were beaten by a better team.

“All in all, I think that our season was well put together and we were well poised to win the championship, but it is now bitter that we are here  to watch the Cayon team celebrate,” Morris lamented.

It was an exciting Friday evening (Jun. 16) of football at the Warner Park Football Stadium on when Cayon edged Conaree 3-1 on penalty kicks in a pulsating encounter after both teams failed to break the deadlock which ended 0-0 at the end of 120-plus minutes of play.

George Isaac, Cayon’s head coach, told SKNVibes Sports that his team went through some difficulties during the season, but with determination and grit eventually came out as the Federation’s number one.

“This season was tremendous even though we had the faults. This season was very good for us. It was a long journey, we endured the hard part of it and we finished it with the trophy.”

Speaking about his team’s performance on Friday, Morris stated that it was a good encounter but they were outplayed by a better team.

He also stated that they created a number of opportunities to win the game but they were unable to capitalize on them.

“I would like to congratulate the Cayon Rockets for a very good game tonight. I think it was a good display of football this evening from them. I think football was definitely the winner this evening.

“I think that the crowd definitely had something to cheer about this evening and they were not let down at all. They would have seen excellent football been played and exhibited this evening.”

Meanwhile, Isaac commended the Sol Island Auto Conaree players, noting that they played a very good game and gave his unit a challenge, which was exciting for the crowd to watch.

“Everything went good this evening! Conaree played a good game. We knew they were a good team. They played good football and coming into this game we needed to have our boys stay focus and sacrifice themselves.”

It was a 16-year wait for the Flow 4G Cayon Rockets to lift the championship trophy, while Conaree were the beaten finalist in 2015.

In addition to the championship trophy, Flow 4G Cayon Rockets walked away with an EC$20,000 cheque, which is an increase from previous seasons.
