Police officer shot with own pistol

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force was reportedly shot with his own service firearm early this morning (Jun. 23).

The officer, this media house understands, is Constable Tuckett who is attached to Beat and Patrol.

The incident is said to have occurred at about 1:00 a.m. at Prickley Pear Alley, Basseterre.

Unconfirmed reports reaching this publication suggest that the officer, who was accompanied by another, was attempting to arrest an individual during which a struggle ensued and his firearm was snatched from him.

SKNVibes.com understands that the perpetrator shot the police officer and the other was able to restrain him before he could flee the scene.

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was summoned to the scene to provide assistance to the fallen officer. This media house understands that after being called twice and having not attended the scene, the officer was placed in a police vehicle and transported to the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

He is warded at the Intensive Care Unit and is said to be in serious but stable condition.

It is likely that the apprehended perpetrator would receive charges but that would not be confirmed until after investigations are in a more advanced stage.
