This 18- week Leadership course is a collaborative effort between the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and Jenkins Limited.  Mr. R A Peter Jenkins, Main Facilitator along with 17 other guest lecturers delivered lectures and discussions on various topics.  Course topics included: Women in Leadership, Leadership in the Church, Communication, Conflict Resolution, Managing Stress and Change, Table Etiquette, Appropriate Dress and Professionalism in the Workplace.

The prerequisite for graduating from the course was the successful completion of two projects; a community project and a business project.  The community project was an upgrade to the playground at the Saddlers Primary School.  Our business project was dubbed “A Night under the Stars” held on the grounds of Government House.  This event was a resounding success and Cohort 4 was able to donate $12,000.00 to Special Olympics St. Kitts Nevis.

Each year the graduation ceremony focuses on different icons.  During this year’s graduation ceremony, icons presented were: Mr. Elston Nero “King Ellie Matt”, Mr. Ivan Hanley Sr., Mr. Esbon Ross, Mr. Scot Hendricks, Ms. Miriam Pickard and Ms. Zanaida Katzen.

Icons were chosen because of their significant contributions to community development and the Federation on a whole. In appreciation of the contributions made by these individuals plaques were distributed to the representatives of these icons.  For example, plaques for Ms. Pickard and Ms. Katzen were presented to the Basseterre High School.

The feature address was delivered by Rev Damien Hughes who touched on the importance of a leader having integrity, being honest and empathetic.

In giving the course overview, Ms. Marva Pinney stated: “This gift has undoubtedly sharpened our leadership expertise. Specifically, it has helped my colleagues and I to gain new insight and learn new skills. It allowed us to create leadership strategies that yielded higher levels of performance from our teams. We were taught how to develop action plans to address significant and urgent leadership and community challenges.”

The Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs, Mrs. Delores Stapleton-Harris gave remarks on behalf of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College in which she encouraged the graduates to stand out as leaders in their respective careers, workplaces, communities and personal causes.

“Each of you will rise either to take or build on the mantle of leadership and service in your careers, your workplace, your communities and most importantly in your personal crusades to effect significant positive change. Many of you would have encountered challenges but have been relentless in your pursuit of the course. Undoubtedly, your personal convictions have allowed you to successfully complete the course,” she remarked.

This year’s ceremony was chaired by Ms. Petra Newton and Mr. Marvin Phillip.

Persons interested in leadership, or who would like to improve their leadership skills are encouraged to enroll in this course. The CFBC/Jenkins Ltd. Leadership course is quite informative and offers a great opportunity to develop or enhance leadership skills.
