July 12th, 2016 -- Two JIFE Music artists and a soon to be signed artist represented St. Kitts and Nevis at the just concluded Caribbean Gospel Music Tour in St. Maarten. JIFE Music President and artist Nyquan, Dominic Brookes and the label’s protégé Ikena all traveled to St. Maarten for that island’s leg of the Caribbean Gospel Music Tour.

The tour, organized by Trinidad and Tobago gospel artist Curtis Jordan, affords gospel artists from around the region to travel to other Caribbean countries to perform at concerts and ministry at various schools, prisons, orphanages and juvenile centers. While in St. Maarten, the artists visited various schools together with other artists from Trinidad and Tobago, sing and conduct workshops as well as perform at the tour’s flagship St. Maarten event: the SXM Weekend of Power on July 1st.

What was also a great opportunity for the artists this year was the opportunity to perform at the Walter Plantz Square in Philipsburg, the venue for the a massive free concert featuring internationally acclaimed singer Michael W. Smith. The artists received critical acclaim and praise from fans in St. Maarten, especially at the Weekend of Power concert. Nyquan released his second E.P. “Cover Meh,” and was able to sell off his CDs that weekend. He also, along with Dominic performed at House of Restoration and Deliverance Church in Philipsburg on the Sunday before their departure and were well received by the congregation.

Before their departure, the artists all expressed pleasure at being given the opportunity to travel to St. Maarten to do music. “Feel really excited…to be a part of that leg. I always enjoyed that St. Maarten leg. It’s filled with energy, it’s filled with a lot of persons who want Christ. What I find is that the persons love worshipping over there,” Nyquan said. For Ikena, it was a dream come true. “It’s a blessing to be part of JIFE, the Gospel Music Tours. I can’t say I would enjoy it with anybody else. I feel blessed,” she said.

As for Dominic, he believes the opportunity would have opened doors for him in the music world, especially as he prepares to release his new EP this summer. “It feels better this time…we’re opening doors and I am happy to do that with my friends. People I call my family. So we’re going to St. Maarten not just to minister to other young people but to open doors for other Caribbean artists, for other St. Kitts artists,” Dominic said.

The artists thanked the government of St. Kitts and Nevis, particularly the Ministry of Culture for sponsoring the airline tickets for their trip as well as New Birth Gospel Tabernacle Church in Cayon and Conquering Storm Shutters for their financial support. The artists represented the federation well and look forward to continuing their musical journey. Nyquan will continue that representation in Trinidad and Tobago when he will be performing at the closing of the Caribbean Gospel Music Tour later this month.
