BVI, 13 July 2016 - Persons who are interested in building their homes and other structures, are encouraged to seek the services of knowledgeable architects.
Deputy Chief Physical Planner, Mr. Dylan Penn said this is one of the keys to swifter service in the processing of applications for prospective homeowners by the Town and Country Planning Department.
Mr. Penn said, “For a large number of cases, the reason why the application may take so long is not always the fault of the department or the planning authority, but really because of lack of understanding and early and efficient communications by a competent design professional, who often works hand in hand with the department.”
Chief Physical Planner, Mr. Greg Adams is also inviting persons to learn more about planning development, proper building practices, planning applications and applications for the development of lands as the department continues with its campaign to educate and sensitise residents about the building and planning services they offer to the community.
The campaign themed “Planning is not about me today, but for us tomorrow, your opinion counts”, is an ongoing initiative by the Town and Country Planning Department to ensure everyone is aware of the mandate of the department.
Mr. Adams stated, “We are here to get persons to understand, that the role of the Town and Country Planning Department is not to say, ‘no’, or to control, but to facilitate their development process, so they would not impact their neighbour adversely or vice versa. In fact we will like everyone to achieve their development goals, while as a Territory we still progress to a sustainable development vision.”
The department will also host a three-part radio report series as a component of its education programme that will be aired on July 11, 18, and 25 on all local radio stations.
The mandate of the Town and Country Planning Department is to bring prospective developers in line with the ordinance and the Land Development Control guidelines, which regulate development within the Territory to maintain a healthy environment.
