Two injured in Old Road Bay accident

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO individuals can count themselves lucky to have only escaped with minor injuries this afternoon (Jul. 16) after the vehicle in which they were travelling ended up in the Caribbean Sea.

According to Acting Commander of District ‘B’ Superintendent Travis Rogers, the names of the individuals were given as Aslyin Isaac of Green Tree Housing Project, Old Road and Scott Hendrickson of Malone Avenue, Basseterre.

He said initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. while the vehicle, driven by Isaac, was travelling east along the island’s main road in the vicinity of the Old Road Bay.

Superintendent Rogers explained that the vehicle reportedly careered off the road a short distance from the last house when exiting Old Road and ended up in the Caribbean Sea.

According to an eyewitness, “The vehicle was travelling at a fast rate of speed and while on the northern side of the road just after passing Ms. Marion’s house, it struck the wall and the driver seemingly lost control and the vehicle ended up in the Sea.”

Rogers informed that Isaac had complained of pains to her upper body while Hendrickson had an injury to one of his fingers, and that they were transported to the JNF General Hospital by ambulance.

He explained that at the time when speaking with SKNVibes, officers were at the hospital conducting investigations.

In response to who is responsible for having the vehicle removed from where it is lodged, Rogers explained that police are mandated to do so and the cost incurred would be borne by the owner.

He however stated that while taking statements from Isaac and Hendrickson, the investigating officer would enquire if they would be making arrangements to have the vehicle removed from the Sea. If not, he added, the police are obligated.
