Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 20, 2016 (RSCNPF): The Police Constables from training class 40 embarked on one the most challenging chapters in their lives on Tuesday (July 19) and Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley shared with them three keys to ensure their journey will be a rewarding one.

Commissioner Queeley told the new constables, "Police work is work full of challenges and opportunities. You are soon going to be exposed to almost all of it. Take it all in and look for the path that excites you. Whatever the path you choose, look for the opportunities to get there, and prepare yourself...endeavor to perform to the best of your ability. Each assignment you have will be important, ensure that it is done well. One of the most rewarding aspects of a career in law enforcement is that virtually every one of its varied tasks is necessary. "You should never lack for meaningful work, embrace the opportunities," he stressed.

"Policing is built on trust", Commissioner Queeley told the graduates. "Earn the trust of your peers, your supervisors, and the community" and added, "Police work is a business of partnership. It is dependent on the trustworthiness and credibility of the individuals involved."  He encouraged the officers to be  good partners by being individuals who can be  trusted based on a reputation for confidentiality, integrity and competence. "Be a person of good character. Seek to live a life of integrity and to encourage it in others," he stressed.

Commissioner Queeley also highlighted for the new officers, the need for balance in their lives, and encouraged them to "ground yourselves in family, faith, friends or community. This job can consume you, if you let it." and expressed to them, "you will always perform better on the job when your life is balanced off the job."

The "Top Cop" also reminded the officers of why they serve, "our number one priority is to ensure citizen safety, to maintain peace, to preserve and uphold the law, thereby creating an environment free of crime and to reduce the fear of crime in our communities.  Take care of the communities where you serve. Serve with integrity, Serve with Honour, and be fair.

Twenty four (24) of the officers in class 40 were assigned to stations in St. Kitts with six(6) being detailed to assignments in Nevis.
