One injured in Bay Road drive-by shooting

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – GUN violence continues in St. Kitts as another young man was injured last night (Jul. 22) in a drive-by shooting incident on the Bay Road in Basseterre.

     

    Information reaching SKNVibes, which police confirmed, states that Javid Saddler, who is said to hail from The Village, was shot in the hip by an unknown individual from within a moving vehicle.

    The incident occurred sometime after 11:00 p.m. in the vicinity of David Coury & Co. Ltd. Hardware Store on the Bay Road.

    The young man is currently warded at the Joseph N France General Hospital and the incident is being investigated by members of the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

    The police are asking anyone who has information pertaining to this incident to contact the VCU at 467-1886, 467-1887 or 467-1888; the CID at 465-2241, ext. 220; the nearest police station; or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS).

    This has been a very busy week for police investigators on St. Kitts as last night’s shooting incident marked the fourth one in which two young men had died and seven others nursing gunshot injuries.

    The first one occurred at about 9:25 p.m. on Tuesday (Jul. 19) in the vicinity of Mad House Alley in Newtown, where it was reported that 19-year-old Shivorn Smith of Ponds Pasture and 18-year-old Derrick Hendrickson of Newtown were both shot to their legs.

    The second one took place at about 9:15 a.m. on Thursday (Jul. 21) in St. Johnston Village, where Vernon ‘Pest’ Elliott was shot twice in the region of his buttocks, while the third incident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday (Jul. 21) which resulted in the death of Cleon Gilbert of Lower Cayon and Kyle Allen of Central Thibou Avenue, and injuries to Omax Bye of Fort Thomas Road, Vance Nisbett of Thibou Avenue and Kevis Cotton of Upper College Street.

    These incidents are also being investigated by the police, but so far no one has reportedly been held responsible for any of them.
