CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – LESS than three hours after a young man was gunned down in St. Kitts, a businessman was killed during an alleged robbery attempt on Nevis.

According to reports, Gary ‘Fatty’ Claxton of Stoney Grove, said to be in his early 50s, was shot at about 2:20 p.m. today (Jul. 25) by an unknown assailant(s) in the vicinity of Paradise Beach in Jessups Village and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Claxton, who owned a business establishment in Stoney Grove, was said to be well-known for his generosity. He was the sponsor of a football team on the Island and had financially supported many community events.

Claxton’s business had mainly involved the purchasing of fish and a variety of other seafood from fishermen for export and also to sell to hotels and locals on the island.

A police release stated that investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit and the Criminal Investigation Department and technicians from the Forensics Services Unit had canvassed the scene for evidence.

His death has taken to 22 the number of homicides committed in the Federation for the year; that is if Constable Brian Pacquette’s death is taken into consideration.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., 22-year-old Cleveland Berkley, alias ‘Fetty’ of Trafalgar Village, Basseterre, was shot by an unknown assailant(s).

He was reportedly sitting under a tree near to the home of the late Noel ‘Zambo’ Heath in Cardin Avenue when his assailant(s) approached and shot him multiple times, including one to the head.

Berkley was transported to the JNF Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
