BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TAIWANESE continue to demonstrate the strong relationship they have with the people of St. Kitts and Nevis as a charitable organisation of that country, for the second time, has donated an assortment of clothing and items for babies to a number of NGOs in the Federation.

The donation was made yesterday (Jul. 26) at a simple but very significant Handing Over Ceremony held at the Curriculum Development Unit in Lockhart Street.

According to Taiwan’s Resident Ambassador to St. Kitts, His Excellency George Gow-Wei Chiou, the donation was made on behalf of the overseas-based non-profit organisation called Simply Help Foundation.

He explained that a total of 331 boxes of items would be presented to the six local agencies.

In accepting the items, Minister of Education the Hon. Shawn Richards said it was a great pleasure for the Ministry to be receiving the donation.

He noted that the Government is pleased to yet again partner with the Taiwanese Government and the non-profit organization based in Los Angeles that has dedicated their service to relief poverty.

“This is the second time that this organization has donated one container full of goods for our people. Once more we are thankful for the pencils, balls, toys, gift sets for babies, blankets, items of clothing for children and many other things.”

According to the Minister, children are normally happy to be receiving gifts and this gesture would put a smile on the faces of the little ones.

The extent of the donation would not be measured by the overall dollar value of the entire shipment or the many smiles that it brings to the faces of the children, but rather through the way they are used by the recipients, Minister Richards stressed.

“Simply Help will certainly live up to its motto...Changing lives one heart at a time,” he added.

The Minister urged the beneficiaries to care the donated items and to put them to good use.

Six organizations received the donations, namely, churches, the JNF General Hospital (Children and Maternity Divisions), St. Vincent De Paul, the Red Cross, Children’s Home and Addie’s Place.

Richards indicated that several items could be used to stimulate early childhood development with the assistance of community-based early childhood programmes.
