Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 28, 2016 (RSCNPF):  The class of 30 Police Officers who graduated on Tuesday, (July 19) and a class of twelve (12) Fire and Rescue Officers undergoing training at the Fire and Rescue Headquarters in Basseterre tripled with twenty two (22) Police Recruits awaiting the commencement of training in a few weeks is a positive indication that serving as a first responder in the federation is the career of choice for many our nation's youth.

According to Mr. Clifford Govia, the Force Personnel Officer of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and Fire and Rescue Services, "applications into to Police Service are up, and the quality of our recruits is also improving." Mr. Govia added, "we are seeing more applicants coming into the Police Service with post secondary education, and an increasing number with first degrees."

This trend Mr. Govia said will benefit the service as it continues to transform. "We will need persons who are willing to learn, and pursuing post secondary education, is an early indicator that the persons coming in, have and are committed to personal growth.  This growth will be essential as we continue to transform and build and future proof our Police Service."

Highlighting the quality of the applicants in the upcoming class of Police Recruits, one has  completed a first degree and several have taken post secondary classes at  CFBC.

The Fire and Rescue Services, although a smaller service continues to meet it recruiting objectives. "Interest in the Fire and Rescue Services continues to be high, and that helps in ensuring a good pool of candidates," said the Force Personnel Officer.

"I applaud the young men and women who have decided that service to country is noble," said Mr. Govia while reflecting on the recruiting efforts. He added, "their families and communities should be commended as well for encouraging and supporting their decisions, our nation will be better for it," he noted.
