BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots put an end to their six-game losing streak when they easily disposed of the Trinidad and Tobago Knight Riders by 34 runs in Lauderhill, Florida last evening (Jul. 29).

The victory is the second for the Patriots in a disappointing season that will see them missing out on the playoffs which would be played at their home ground.

Batting first, on a surface the Patriots piled on a competitive 180 for 5 on the back of a brilliant 79 from in form wicketkeeper batsman Evin Lewis, who was ably assisted by a quick-fire 35 from 19 balls by Shamarh Brooks.

In reply, the Knight Riders never got off to a good start due to an impressive bowling performance from the Patriots lineup which was spearheaded by Krishmar Santokie, as they restricted their opponents to 146 all out.

The in form Hashim Amla blasted a quick-fire 33 runs before he was runout trying to steal a single that brought Colin Munro to the crease and he attacked in a top score of 48 comprising of two fours and three sixes.

Santokie would later have him trapped LBW in his four-over spell that saw him taking figures of 3 for 37, while Thisara Perera also bagged 3 wickets.

Earlier, Lewis took a liking to the pace bowlers when he hammered Ronsford Beaton for three boundaries is his opening overs.

He then returned to blast 13 runs off of Kevon Cooper's over that included two sixes, one which handsomely lofted over the extra cover region.

Patriots captain Faf du Plessis, in reflecting on Lewis’ batting, explained that it was something that was missing from his team throughout the tournament, adding that it is not easy bowling to someone who bats as well as he did.

“On his own tonight, he probably won us the match.”

The Patriots will close out the competition tomorrow (Jul. 31), when they play the Knight Riders at the same venue.
