Jeep goes over Old Road Bay after driver has dizzy spell

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CIVILIANS, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff and members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services were all instrumental in removing a man from a vehicle which had plunged into the sea at Old Road Bay this afternoon (Jul. 30).

The incident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. and the injured party and driver of vehicle PA9099 is Austin Buchanan of Keys.

Information received by SKNVibes suggests that he might have experienced a dizzy spell which caused him to lose control of the vehicle, which resulted in it plunging into the Old Road Bay.

The vehicle was badly damaged and civic minded individuals who took note of the distressful situation, went into the water to provide assistance in removing Buchanan from the vehicle.

The EMS team was successful in strapping him to a stretcher and according to Fire Chief Everette O’Ogarro, his team had to deploy rescue equipment to get Buchanan safely to land, where he was loaded into the EMS vehicle and transported to the hospital.

The extent of his injuries is not yet known to this media house but the authorities are conducting their investigations into the matter.

Buchanan was the vehicle’s sole occupant at the time of the incident.
