Teams ready for CPL action at Warner Park this evening

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE biggest party in sports - the Caribbean Premier League - has returned to the Warner Park for finals action, where fun and excitement are expected.

Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Jamaica Tallawahs are readying to light up the grounds this evening (Aug. 3), as both teams got their much-needed practice sessions yesterday, ahead of their semi-final clash.

Speaking with CPL media during his team’s session, Warriors batsman Jason Mohammed said his unit has a great mindset following their recent two comprehensive victories in Florida.

The Warriors outplayed the Barbados Tridents in their two encounters in the United States, thus eliminating them from playoff contention.

“We played two excellent games in Florida, and to top the group ahead of the Tallawahs gave us a little bit of additional bonus in terms of our mindset coming here with victory and momentum,” Mohammed said.

He added that he still has good memories of when his team last played in St. Kitts which was when he got a Man of the Match award for his performance. He indicated that he expects to perform to his best during the game this evening.

To this end, he noted that they would be seeking to address the challenges of their catching which was a bother during their outing in Florida.

Tallawahs’ Kesrick Williams explained that his team is coming in with the same positive mindset that they had when they last played in the United States, noting that even with the loss it has not changed anything in the team’s camp.

He added that the guys are more in tune following their training session and they are using the defeats at the hands of third-placed St. Lucia Zouks as a wakeup call for an impressive performance in the critical juncture of the tournament.

“You go out there and you lose, then you want to go out there and win again. So I think that it is a good wake up call for us. We went out there and tried to play hard cricket but obviously St. Lucia played better cricket than us.”

Action bowls off from 19:00hrs at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium where the winner will go directly to the finals and the loser would play the winner of the next game between Trinbago Knight Riders and the St. Lucia Zouks at the same venue.
