BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - POLICE OFFICER Brian Pacquette was laid to rest yesterday (Aug. 9) in his native Dominica, amidst the grief and sorrow of friends, family and close confidants.

The young officer died last month after seeking medical treatment overseas for an injury he sustained while responding to a larceny in Greenlands, St. Kitts.

Pacquette – who was a member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force - was remembered by Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley as one of those individuals who was small in stature but large at heart.

“Large in the way he touched the lives of those who he came into contact with. This is a tragic and unexpected loss for the men and women of our Police Force.”

He stated that the 34-year-old constable will long be remembered by fellow officers for his energy, positive outlook and love for the Police Force.

Queeley told the mourners gathered at the Truth and Grace Fellowship Global Church in Roseau, that Constable Pacquette would assist a wheelchair-bound gentleman to freely move around town when that individual needed to collect his salaries and conduct other business.

“His supervisors, when he was assigned to the Cayon Police Station, spoke of his courage and how this just-over-five-feet constable through his mere presence brought a sense of calm in a very troubled area, and gained the trust of residents as he regularly patrolled the known hotspots and engaged them in conversation.”

Queeley noted that the “bad boys” respected the officer as he was always seen out and about admonishing them when they do wrong.

The CoP left a word of thanks for Pacquette through his relatives for the diligence with which he serve the Force.

“I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart for the service he provided for the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.”

Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris also extended words of gratitude for the service the young man provided in securing the Federation.

“He served in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force with distinction; with courage; with dedication and bravery and these qualities we commend to all officers engaged in law enforcement…”

Officer Brian Pacquette was born on January 22, 1982 in Roseau, Dominica and died July 18, 2016 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

He was interred at the Roseau Public Cemetery with a military send off.
