Kim Collins shines for Federation, Fraser-Pryce dethroned

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation’s athletes had mixed results today (Aug. 13) in RIO at the 2016 Olympic Games, when sprint legend Kim Collins was the only one to qualify from the Heats.

Collins registered a time of 10.18s to finish fourth in Heat three which was good enough to see him being one of the fastest qualifiers to move on.

His compatriots, Brijesh Lawrence and Antoine Adams were not as successful as they both finished eighth in their respective races.

Running in Heat six, Adams never got the start that he wanted and could only manage a time of 10.39s, which was way outside the cut off point for the fastest losers.

Lawrence on the other hand, struggled throughout the race in a heat that was the slowest of all the races. He clocked a time of 10.55s.

Collins will return tomorrow evening (Aug. 14) to compete in the semi-finals where he will come up against the likes of Usain Bolt of Jamaica and Canadian Andre De Grasse in Heat one of the Semi-finals which is schedule for approximately 21:05hrs.

Meanwhile, Jamaican sprint queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was dethroned by her compatriot, Elaine Thompson in the women’s 100m finals.

American Tori Borrie took second place with a time of 10.83s.

Fraser-Pryce was looking to become the only woman to win three consecutive Gold medals in one event, but had to settle for third place with a time 10.86s - a season best for her.

Adams will return to the track on Tuesday (Aug. 16) in the Men’s 200m Heats with the action sprinting off from 10:50am.

Tameka Williams will swing into action on Monday (Aug. 15) when she competes in the Women’s 200m Heats.

The men will also compete in the 4x100m relay.
