BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE gun-related violence with which the Federation has been dealing continued early this morning (Aug. 14) with a Sandy Point resident being shot multiple times.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force issued a press statement today explaining that at about 2:15 a.m. and according to their investigations, “an adult male was shot by an unknown assailant(s) along the island main road in Sandy Point…”

SKNVibes understands that the victim is Abkin Bryan who is also known as Nigel Phillip of Cleverly Hill.

He, according to the Police, “was taken to the Pogson Medical Centre for treatment and then transferred to the Joseph N. France General Hospital”.

His condition was not mentioned in the release.

It states however that members of the Violent Crimes Unit, the Criminal Investigations Department and the Forensic Services Unit processed the scene and a 9mm firearm with matching rounds of ammunition were “found in the area of the scene”.

The communique does not speak to whether or not it is possible that this firearm was used in the commission of the offence. However, it is expected that ballistic testing would be performed on the weapon to determine whether or not it was.

With 21 illegal firearms taken into police custody during 2015, this recent find brings to 20 the number which have been seized for this year.

This incident comes just three days after Parliamentary Representative for that area Deputy Prime Minister the Hon. Shawn K. Richards issued an appeal to the residents to put down the guns, set aside their differences and work together for the advancement of their hometown.
