BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Team Unity Administration is pledging its full support in rectifying the ongoing problems affecting Old Road Bay.

For a number of years, motor vehicles and other road users have been, and continue to be affected by the falling of rocks in the area.

Also over the years, a number of vehicles have also plummeted into the sea at Old Road Bay. But Parliamentary Representative for Constituency number four, Hon. Lindsay Grant recently spoke at a town hall meeting in neighbouring Sandy Point where he indicated that his Government’s commitment to look after the problem.

“I had word with Mr. Liburd and I know he is committed and the Government is committed to do something to enhance what is happening at Old Road Bay,” Grant disclosed.

He explained that it is a long-standing problem that the administration is aware of, but noted that the Government is committed to ensuring that something is done to protect the lives of citizens and residents of this Federation.

“The resources of the Government are limited and we have priority areas. It is not a case that we would neglect that area, it will be taken and done in due course.”

In a recent media interview Minister of Public Infrastructure, the Hon. Ian Liburd said modification work at the Old Road Bay location would not begin until sometime in the new budgetary year.

This, he noted, is due largely to the fact that the Government would be including the project in the 2017 appropriations as this project was not considered for the 2016 budget.

“By December, we should put all the estimates together and have it start sometime early next year,” he was quoted in The Observer as saying.

Some have posited that the task remedying the problems along the Old Road Bay road would be a tedious and expensive one as the issues on both the mountain side and the sea side would need to be addressed.
