Saturday 13th August, 2016 (St. Kitts & Nevis) - The St. Kitts Nevis National Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) held its first retreat today at Port Zante, to discuss plans for the well anticipated ‘Sugar Mas 45’. “Today’s retreat was to complete the calendar of events, including possible new additions to the packed lineup and to confirm the 2016/2017 carnival dates” said Mr. Noah Mills, SKNNCC Chairman.
Most of the Chairpersons from 2015 were reinstated and present at the retreat and gave their full commitment to achieving the goals and objectives of the SKNNCC. Also present were new chairpersons of various committees who made presentations as to the concepts for their respective events.
The Hon. Shawn K. Richards, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, embraced us with his presence and gave brief remarks thanking the SKNNCC for their outstanding performance in the 2015/216 carnival and their commitment to yet another year. Mr. Richards also welcomed and thanked the new SKNNCC members and reiterated his open door policy for any assistance that can be given to them over the next 6 months.
The St. Kitts Nevis National Carnival will run from November 18th, 2016 to January 8th, 2017. The Festival is predicting record numbers of visitors coming to St. Kitts and Nevis and taking part in this year's Carnival events due its 45th year celebration, as well as, the economic trend.
It is time that the public get in to the carnival spirit and as such more details will be released shortly so that everyone will be apprised of registration dates for events, vending, etc. as well as, the calendar of events among other pertinent information.
The SKNNCC takes this opportunity to thank everyone who played a role in making 2015/2016 carnival great. We are extending invitations to the public, via this forum, to anyone who may be interested in being a part of the Committee; and to all, a safe and enjoyable Sugar Mas 45, as we work to keep our ‘culture’ alive.
