Federation gets new High Court Judge

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FOLLOWING the surprise resignation of Her Ladyship Justice Marlene Carter effective August 15, the Government has found her replacement in the person of Trinidadian-born, His Honour Trevor Ward.

     

    That announcement was made yesterday (Aug. 23) by Attorney General Hon. Vincent Byron Jr. in the National Assembly.

     

    Rising to update the House on the passage of several key pieces of legislation, the Minister of Justice explained that the government received word from the Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court and Chair of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, Dame Janice Pereira, that Justice Ward QC had been appointed to the High Court for St. Kitts and Nevis.

     

    Ward’s position will become effective on September 1st, 2016 at which team he is expected to preside over a number of cases.

     

    According to a release from the Government information service (SKNIS), Ward worked as the Director of Public Prosecutions in the Cayman Islands from November 2011-December 2014, also serving in the capacity as Senior Crown Counsel in the Cayman Islands Legal Department from November 2007-October 2011. 

     

    He is the holder of a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in English Language and Literature/Letters from the University of the West Indies (U.W.I.), the Government agency said.

     

    He also received a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the U.W.I., St. Augustine Campus (1992-1994) before moving to the top law institution in Trinidad, the Hugh Wooding Law School - where he completed his Legal Education Certificate (LEC).
