BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (August 29, 2016) -- The Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis has once again demonstrated that it is committed to the educational advancement of persons pursuing tertiary education.

General Manager, Mr Lenworth Harris, on Friday August 26 announced that the Bank had provided a one-off scholarship of US$5,000 to Ms Clayticia Daniel, a student at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica and the reigning Miss Culture Queen who was sponsored by the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis.

It was a dream come true for Butler’s Village native Ms Clayticia Daniel, when in the early hours of Monday 1st August she was crowned the 2016 Miss Culture Queen. She had worked hard to achieve that milestone.

Friday August 26 was a turning point for the Miss Culture Queen as that is the day she travelled to Basseterre, St. Kitts, to present her crown to her sponsor - the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis. She was warmly met and welcomed by staff members led by the General Manager Mr Lenworth Harris.

“As a sponsor of Culturama 42, and others before that, the Development Bank was proud to have Clayticia as its representative,” said Mr Harris. “She had shown promise and with her past role as a Junior Minister of Tourism in Nevis while still in secondary school and now the current Miss Rex 2016, a crown she won at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, we were assured of a win. She did not let us down.”

The last time a Miss Culture Queen Pageant contestant sponsored by the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis won the title was in 2011, when Ms Santonnya Mills was crowned the queen.

“Ms Daniel is also a hard worker from the educational front, as she is currently pursuing her tertiary education at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica,” noted Mr Harris. “The Development Bank wishes her success in her endeavours and in support the bank is contributing a one-off US$5,000 scholarship towards her education.”

Mr Harris wished her well as she carried out the ambassadorial duties of Miss Culture Queen for the period she is the reigning queen. He at the same time hoped that upon completing her studies that she will return to the Federation to assist in the development of the nation.

“I would promote the bank in the capacity of an ambassador,” Clayticia had said in a pre-queen pageant interview. “I will of course let everybody know where to go to for education loans when they want to pursue studies to further themselves in education. I know Development Bank is 100 per cent behind students when it comes to education, so that is something that I will promote for the bank.”
