Back to School Financial Assistance

By: CFCF, Press Release

Monday 29th August, 2016 (St. Kitts & Nevis) - The Champs for Charity Foundation (CFCF) held its first 'Back to School Finanical Assistance' ceremony on Saturday 27th August 2016 at the Police Training Center, Basseterre.

The program is one of the three targeted areas under the Foundation's educational mandate, and has provided families who are in need with vouchers to purchase school supplies, including but not limited to uniforms, text books, note books, school bags, etc.

In her welcoming remarks, Chairperson of the Foundation, Shirley Julius spoke about using what little is offered and giving thanks nevertheless. "We hope that the assistance we provide helps level the playing field for these children. While we can't supply everything, we can help with the very basics and for some, these basic items are all that they'll have." Ms. Julius further encouraged the parents to stay focused and do their best to love, support and encourage their children no matter the circumstances. Julius also pledged the ongoing support of the Foundation towards the family members at the ceremony.

The Foundation also extended its reach, and awarded two University students with its Scholars Education and Economic Development program (SKN SEED). Treasurer Candice Caines in her remarks said, "Although this program is not launched as yet, the Foundation decided to honor the request of two applications seeking financial assistance for overseas education. While there are many academic scholarships available to students to study abroad, CFCF realizes that even with a scholarship, students still struggle financially to secure the cost of their basic needs of food and housing and that is the common interest for our SKN SEED Program".

In the coming weeks, the Foundation will reveal publicly all of its functional areas and ways in which groups and members of the Federation can apply for financial and other assistance.

The ceremony was chaired by Public Relations Officer, Tasha Hendrickson and the vote of thanks delivered by Valentine Lindsay, one of the Foundation's members.

To date, over E.C $9,000 has been invested into the Federation from the Foundation's functional area of education.

The 'Back to School Financial Assistance' program is open to the public until 31st August 2016.
