‘Digicel Barbershop Day’ Appreciated by Parents & Students

Digicel Brand Ambassador Mr. Hype Was On Location Distributing Free Notebooks
By: Digicel, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts (Sept. 7, 2016) --  In true Digicel fashion, students in St. Kitts and Nevis received free, professional haircuts on Saturday, September 3, 2016, just in time for Back-to-School, compliments Digicel.

From as early as 6:00am, Barbershops around the island had queues of young customers waiting to get that last minute grooming to look smart for the start of the new school year, which for the majority, was Monday, 5th September.

Digicel CEO Sean Latty commented on this community initiative: “At Digicel, we know parents have many additional responsibilities when it is time to send a child or children back to school after the Summer holidays. As such, we thought it fit to give back in a small way, by relieving parents of the expense of a haircut. Plus, which child does not want to start the new school term with a clean, neat haircut?”

SKN’s preferred telecommunications provider, Digicel, expresses a hearty “Thank You” to the partners of the “Digicel Barbershop Day” namely, Reliable Barbershop which is located on Rosemary Lane, Chamarco Barbers, Main Street in Nevis and Bertico’s Barber Salon on Liverpool Row. The meticulous barbers at these locations ensured that each customer was greeted with a smile and exited the barber chair with an even bigger smile, and parents being told the service was “complimentary to them – being paid for by Digicel.”

In addition to the free Back-to-School haircuts sponsored by Digicel, Brand Ambassador Bjorn ‘Mr. Hype’ Bassue also contributed to the day’s activities by purchasing and distributing dozens of notebooks to the students at Reliable Barber Salon. Dion Browne, owner of the popular barbershop on Rosemary Lane has been Mr. Hype’s barber for several years and Mr. Hype even refers to Reliable Barbershop as his “Chill Spot.”

Digicel will continue to give back to students throughout the school year. Customers can anticipate scholarships to be rewarded to deserving students who participated in Digicel’s Smartphone & Data Summer Campaign. These financial donations are bound to come in handy as daily expenses need to be met as our children strive for excellence in academia.
