BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE United States Government, through its Secretary of State John Kerry, has congratulated the Federation on its 33rd Independence Anniversary.

In a short message, Kerry stated that the two countries have enjoyed a friendship that is rooted in the democratic principles and individual freedoms.

"On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis as you celebrate the 33rd anniversary of your beautiful nation’s independence,.”

According to the Secretary of State, the United States shares the same “commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth, and is proud to partner with you to empower youth, eradicate devastating diseases, and promote clean energy”.

Additionally, Kerry said the United Stated values the leadership in the fight against narcotics trafficking and looks forward to building on the progress made through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI).

The United States of America’s congratulatory message to the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis came on the heels of those from many other foreign leaders, as the twin-island Federation celebrated its 33rd year of political independence from Britain.

This historic milestone was celebrated yesterday (Sept. 19) with the traditional Independence Parade held at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium Federation and concluded at Camp Springfield, where the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Tapley Seaton had raised a toast to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll.
