FLOW St. Kitts & Nevis Shining the Blue Light: FLOW Secondary School Scholarship Programme

By: FLOW, Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts & Nevis (Oct 6th, 2016) – Since 1988 Cable & Wireless St. Kitts & Nevis Ltd, have proudly worked in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to assist families of deserving high school students within the Federation to further their education through our Secondary School Scholarship Programme.

That’s right, for 28 years this financial assistance now dubbed FLOW Secondary School Scholarship Programme continued with the recent award of twelve (12) new scholarship grants to this year’s cohort for the 2016-17 academic year.

In commenting on this annual initiative, Mr. David Lake General Manager at FLOW stated, “At FLOW we fully appreciate that the education of a nation is critical to its development. It is with this mind-set that we have committed our full support to the education of the youth of our Federation. Whether it’s via our Free Internet/Wi-Fi service to all of the secondary school computer labs, or our recognition of the outstanding achievements of both our students and educators through our annual Academic Excellence Awards, we see it as our civic duty to assist”.

Mr. Lake continued, “Notwithstanding all that we have done and continue to do in the field of education, this scholarship programme is the one that is dearest to my heart. That is because this programme affords us the opportunity to directly and positively impact the development of many boys and girls in our nation. Numerous students who have benefitted from this very programme have moved on to be shining examples of what hard work and dedication could achieve. Several of them have become successful business leaders, doctors, lawyers and outstanding educators”.

In outlining how the program works, FLOW Marketing & Corporate Communications Manager Kevin Edwards said, “Through nomination forms that the Ministry of Education distributes to all government primary schools, students of the graduating classes are selected based on the following criteria:

    1. Financial need 2. Excellent academic aptitude 3. Great attitude towards teachers, parents and peers.”

Scholarship awardees receive financial assistance to purchase school uniforms, books and other relevant supplies. This assistance is given from forms 1 through 5, once students maintain passing grades on their annual report cards as well as live up to the personal behaviour and code of conduct set out by the programme.
