Cuerpo Fusion Mime Performance focuses on life issues

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE taste of Cuba has been intensified over the week leading to tomorrow’s (Oct. 23) Latin Fiesta with one of the most memorable events being the Cuerpo Fusion Mime Performance.

That event took place on Thursday evening (Oct. 20) at the Latin Festival Village on Port Zante before hundreds of culturally-enthused guests.

The production featured approximately eight pieces performed by a four-member cast and was produced and directed by Maritza Acosta.

One of the performances portrayed the story of a love triangle involving two men and one woman with one of them expressing feelings for or falling inlove with the woman on one hand, and on the other he developed feelings for the man. But in the end all parties were left heartbroken.

In another of the performances, a man and a woman appeared to have been courting and seemed very much in love until after they got married. At that point, the man became abusive and controlling to his mate so much so that he would get angry when she attempted to enjoy simple things such as standing by an opened window and take in the fresh air.

What some refer to the as the “Cocks and Hens” scene of the production was hilarious to say the least. It began with the hens appearing to assert their prowess to each other but the game was on when a cock entered the stage. The hens, of course, gravitated to the cock and each acted in jealousy as others interacted with him.

Another cock had entered the stage and after a while both of them departed leaving the hens on their own.

The performance ended with lively dances from the four-member cast after which the mastermind behind the pantomime – Acosta - was presented to the audience.

In an interview with SKNVibes following the performances, the cast members said they were pleased to bring a part of their Cuban culture to St. Kitts and Nevis.

“It was a unique experience. We are very happy to bring the mime art to St. Kitts and Nevis. We are very, very excited because we were able to bring a piece of Cuba to St. Kitts and Nevis, especially today October 20 when we are celebrating the Culture Day in Cuba.”

Acosta said the stories presented mirrored situations encountered in life.

“We brought tonight different samples of real life. Different situations that happen in daily life that affect people for good or bad. All the acts were important because every person in the audience identifies themselves with some part of the acts. Our intention is to treat these daily life situations with respect for people.”

Cuerpo Fusion – the cast informed - was also taken to France, Brazil, Italy, Columbia and Chile.

Latin Festival Seven, Cuba Edition, continues this evening with a warm up party and concludes tomorrow with the much-anticipated Latin Fiesta. It takes place at Latin Festival Village and runs from 3:00 p.m. until…
