BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the dust of the recently-concluded Latin Fiesta having settled, the Dance Competition portion of the party is still very much on the minds of the attendees.
The competition, which has been a feature of the Fiesta over the past couple of years, took place among 10 couples who had to display their skills to a number of genres of music.
After enjoying themselves to the Batukealo, the dance floor was cleared of revellers and only those involved in the competition were invited to occupy it.
From Salsa to Bachata, to the Merengue and Reggaeton, all couples danced their way across the floor, some with flips and lifts and mesmerizing waistline movements.
DJ Red Noise provided the perfect atmosphere for this display of dance-off skill, and by the end of the first round only five couples were able to advance.
In the deciding round, each couple was given little less than five minutes on the dancefloor to give a more elaborate display of their Salsa, Merengue and Bachata capabilities.
After about a minute and a half on each genre, DJ Red Noise seamlessly transitioned into the next until each couple had completed their presentation.
The prizes were attractive and ranged from cash to vouchers.
The fifth spot was taken by Couple No. 7 Rafael Rosales and Anarelis Gutierrez, with Couple No. 10 - Cinthya Cabrera and Alexis Portillo taking the fourth.
Third place winners were Kristin Greaux and Samuel Phipps, while second place went to Saidys Espinosa and Francisco Ruiz and first place was won by Couple No. 6 - Oscar Rawlins and Evelin Gonzalez.
The prizes from first to fifth were EC2,500, two Digicel smartphones, two $600 voucher from S. L. Horsford’s and Company Ltd., two tickets to a Rotary International’s ball, and two tickets to the Ski Safari respectively.
The Latin Fiesta was the culminating event of Latin Festival 7, Cuba Edition.
