By: Peter Ngunjiri, Press Release
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (November 5, 2016) -- The James Harris Cricket League in Mansion enters a crucial stage tomorrow (Sunday November 6), when the two unbeaten teams in the league’s 2016 edition, Limers (Front Street - Mansion) and Lodge clash in the second game of the afternoon.

According to the league Coordinator, Mr John Palmer, Limers and Lodge have so far won two games each since the league started on Sunday October 16 and promises to be a thriller. He is urging cricket fans in the Mansion/Christchurch area and also in the Tabernacle, Molineux and Lodge areas not to miss the game.

The first game in the afternoon tomorrow Sunday will be between Molineux and Back Street - Mansion.

Six teams are taking part in this year’s league, Lodge, Molineux, Christchurch, Limers (Front Street), Back Street and Tabernacle. One of the regular participants of the league which is now in its ninth year, Heights, has dropped out.

Christchurch collected maximum points in the first game on October 16 when their opponents Tabernacle failed to turn up, while in the second game Lodge beat Molineux.

The following week, October 23, Limers (Front Street) beat their sister team Back Street in the first game while in the second game Molineux beat Tabernacle.

Last Sunday, October 30, when Lodge took on Tabernacle in the first game, Lodge batted first and made 94 for 3 from 12 overs. A. Richard was 62 not out, and bowling for Tabernacle V. Patrick took 2 for 29. Tabernacle batting were 25 all out in 10.5 overs, Jamey Mills 11. Bowling for Lodge L. Thompson took 2 for 8. Lodge won by 69 runs.

The other game of the afternoon, Christchurch came up against Limers (Front Street). Christchurch batted first and made 64 all out in 12.5 overs, Garfield Charles 25. Bowling for Limers Austin Williams took 3 for 14 and Kevin ‘Love Sponge’ Bradshaw 4 for 3.

Limers batting made 65 for 4 in 14 overs, with Winston ‘Butter’ Clarke 23 not out. Bowling for Christchurch, Z. Pencheon took 1 for 13, V. Newton 1 for 9, C. Browne 1 for 7, and J. Clarke 1 for 13. Limers won by 6 wickets.

“The James Harris Cricket Tournament is named Mr James Harris, one of our great cricketers here in Mansion,” noted League Coordinator Mr John Palmer. “He played for St. Kitts, Leeward and Combined Islands. As a village competition we started with four teams, Back Street, Heights, Front Street Limers and a team from the neighbouring Christchurch.

“After about three years three teams from the neighbouring villages started showing interest, the first one being Tabernacle, and then Molineux, and Lodge. They have been taking part since, and have indeed graced the tournament in this our ninth year.”
