SKNFA suspends two St. Peter’s players

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -  COMING days after several J-League players were suspended by their club, the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) has suspended two more from ELCO Ltd. St. Peter’s FC.

In a statement released yesterday (Nov.5),  the Association indicated that match officials, who had officiated the game between Winners Circle Newtown United and ELCO Limited St. Peter’s on October 30, submitted a report informing that Kareem Harris, Shaquille Barzey and Yannick Harris had broken the rules in a scuffle that ensued on the pitch.

In handing down judgment, the SKNFA explained that match officials informed the body that the players had violated rule 10 (0) of the SKNFA Rules & Regulations.

According to the Association, the players were summoned to a Disciplinary Committee meeting during the week where the sanctions were imposed.

Kareem Harris and Yannick Harris were suspended for six and three games respectively, while Barzey was cautioned in relation to words he uttered to the referee.

The SKNFA has in recent months made a stern effort to stamp out indiscipline in the sport following a fracas between Garden Hotspurs and Sol Island Auto Conaree after a fight took place in a FA cup match between the two teams back in April.

In relation to the J-League’s incident, St. Paul’s FC had suspended Raheem Freeman and Travis Jules.

According to a statement from the club, Freeman was suspended with immediate effect for six games, while Jules was also suspended with immediate effect and would have sit out for the rest of the season.

Both youngsters were deemed to have started a fight in a game they played against Rams Village Superstars.

“Our investigation concluded that the fighting incident started when a Rams Village Superstars player was tackled by a St. Paul’s player, Shafeeq Challenger, and retaliated by kicking Shafeeq while he was still on the ground.

“The Rams Village Superstars player was then surrounded by several SLH St. Paul’s players, who came to Shafeeq’s defence. The two players sanctioned physically attacked the Village player, Mr. Jules’ sanction is more severe because it was proven that he started the attack and was the main aggressor.

“The S.L. Horsford St. Pauls Football Club has earned the reputation as a disciplined club that has zero tolerance for the behaviour displayed on Monday night,” the club said in a statement.

The club apologized to their sponsors, fans and the SKNFA for the “unacceptable action of two of our misguided players”.

“We have taken this action to dissuade these and other players from engaging in similar behaviour that can tarnish the image of the club, and football generally,” the statement said.
