Team SKN confident ahead of Haiti encounter

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - GENERAL SECRETARY of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), Stanley Jacobs has expressed optimism that the Sugar Boys could get over the line in their all-important CFU Caribbean Cup encounter against Haiti this weekend.

Billed for Sunday (Nov.13) at Warner Park, the Sugar Boys are entering the game in a must win situation after losing their opening encounter with French Guiana - thus leaving them at the bottom of the three-team group - with only the top two nations qualifying for the next round.

Jacobs, during a recent interview, told SKNVibes that this weekend's encounter “is probably one of the biggest games because it is a very critical encounter in our quest for the Gold Cup”.

“We are taking this game very seriously and it comes down to if we win this match we will definitely advance to the Gold Cup, so we will be making that our objective to win this match .  We will not be taking Haiti lightly because they are a good team and one of the best in the region.”

President of the SKNFA, Anthony Johnson has over the last seven months indicated that their primary aim coming out of the Caribbean Cup is to qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The top nations from the CFU zone will come up against teams including the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Jacobs noted that they are expecting a highly competitive game, adding that with the team playing at home, a large crowd is expected to lend support.

“We believe with the home court advantage we would be able to win this game,” Jacobs said.

The game is a rescheduled encountered after Hurricane Matthew had forced the hands of officials at the Caribbean Football Union to postpone the October encounter.

Several days after that encounter, the Sugar Boys will gear up for the return leg of their friendly international against Estonia at the same venue.
