BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (November 11, 2016) -- Six young and talented beauties will Saturday November 12 at the Carnival Village in Basseterre be on stage competing for the Miss St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services Welfare Association Pageant which will be held under the theme ‘Your Safety is our Priority’.

Chairman of the welfare association Fire Sub Station Officer (FSSO) Elvis Isaac, while inviting members of the general public to turn out and give support to the six brave contestants, noted that this is the second pageant after it would have been held for the first time last year and the intention is to make it an annual event.

“We have six girls taking part, representing each station,” said FSSO Isaac. “We have six stations in the Federation, four in St. Kitts and two in Nevis. So we have one girl representing each station.”

According to FSSO Isaac, the contestants are not fire officers but persons from communities in which the Fire and Rescues Services stations are located. The show would start at 8 pm on Saturday and there would be three appearances by the contestants.

“They will be doing three appearances - evening wear, talent, and futuristic wear,” he pointed out. He explained that the futuristic wear segment “is where they imagine and project what they would like to see the Fire Department uniform look down the road.”

He added that the contestants will also give a speech where they will say certain things about the station they are representing and their sponsor.

The contestants are: Sami-Qua Cannonier, Miss Basseterre Fire Station, Contestant #1; Charity Mardenborough, Miss Sandy Point Fire Station, Contestant #2; Cinnamon Matthew, Miss RLB Fire Hall, Contestant #3; Dentricia Clarke, Miss Tabernacle Fire Station, Contestant #4; Shanika Percival, Miss Vance Amory Fire Hall, Contestant #5; and Shecoma Green-Henry, Miss Charlestown Fire Station, Contestant #6.

Different sponsors were sought for the individual contestants, and the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis (DBSKN) has sponsored Contestant #1, 20-year-old Sami-Qua Cannonier, Miss Basseterre Fire Station.

Early in September, Ms Vernitha Maynard Marketing Officer at the Development Bank presented a sponsorship cheque for Ms Sami-Qua Cannonier to Chairman and Secretary of the Miss St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services Welfare Association Pageant FSSO Elvis Isaac and Woman Fire Officer (WFO) Chenelle Bart respectively.

On Thursday November 10, Contestant #1 Miss Basseterre Fire Station Sami-Qua Cannonier visited the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis head office on Church Street in Basseterre where she was officially introduced to the General Manager, Mr Lenworth Harris.

Ms Cannonier who is an assistant chef by profession informed Mr Harris that she also specialises in carving fruits for special occasions especially baby showers. She also informed him that she is working on her own modelling agency where she intends to train young people from the different communities.

“You seem to have a creative mind and with that spirit our doors are open,” Mr Harris told the Contestant. He informed her that the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis is the most important financial institution in the Federation, one that makes a sustained and positive difference in people’s lives and offered that “We will try to make your dreams become a reality.”
