BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOXY, a local artiste who is making her mark in the Soca arena, is ‘On a Soca Beat” for Sugar Mas 45 and is raising the ‘Ladies Anthem’ for this year’s competition.

While she is no stranger to the stage, Kanava ‘Foxy’ Pereira had entered the Soca Monarch Competition for the first time in 2014. And while she made it to the Finals, her material for the 2015 competition somehow did not make it into the hands of the judges.

This year, however, Foxy says she believes she has produced her best work yet and is excited to take part in both the Power and Groovy Segments of the competition.

    Ladies Anthem – Power

Foxy’s Groovy contender is ‘Ladies Anthem’ in which she encourages women to love themselves regardless of their size.

“I was inspired by the fact that sometimes you gain one or two pounds or you lose one or two pounds and people make you feel so bad about yourself. They ask why are you getting so fat or they tell you, ‘You look skinny.’ So I decided to write a song because, as women, we all look good. Variety is the spice of life so some would be big and some would be small.

“When people say certain things concerning your weight they make you feel insecure about yourself. I am encouraging women to love themselves no matter what. I go as far as to say in the song, because we look good ‘shake that thing’.

    On a Soca Beat

Foxy’s simple explanation of this Groovy song is that for this season there is no need or time for Reggae, Hip Hop, Jazz or any other genre of music except Soca.

She penned both songs and they were produced by her significant other Mervin 'Inches' Maynard.

The songstress told SKNVibes she would be working on releasing another Groovy song before the Sugar Mas 45 season concludes.

Her two competition pieces were to have been released since last week, but she indicated that she was experiencing some difficulties.

Her fans need not to be overly concerned however, because she has plans to drop both songs with the local radio stations this week.

As is the norm, Foxy said she is “very confident” that she would experience success in the competition.
