BASSETERRE, ST. Kitts - THE final line-up for the 2016/2017 Soca Monarch Competitions have been set after the Semi-finals were held and the field cut to the final eight and seven contestants in the Groovy and Power segments respectively.
Competing in the highly-anticipated Semi-finals on Friday (Dec. 9), all of the artistes who made that round sang on the same evening with their props and backups - after being spilt for the elimination rounds.
The field progressing to the Finals in the Groovy segment is led by young songster Dejour Alexander with 454 points, who edged out Casim ‘Rucas’ Pemberton with 451 points.
The others who made the cut in that segment are Shannakay ‘Shanna’ Raymond, Delison ‘X-Man’ Roper, Jason ‘KT’ Kyte, Shakia ‘Vybz’ Challenger, Marvin ‘DJ Woodis’ Lewis and Jason ‘Pinocchio’ Mitcham.
Those moving forward would now joining reigning Kings Nicha B at the December 24 Finals, while in the Power segment scheduled for the same evening, defending champion Mr. Hype will face stiff competition from a very strong field of competitors.
Friday’s Semi-finals saw Anandee ‘Lil Miss’ Richards making her presence felt, despite her small stature, as she progressed as the top competitor in the Power segment.
However, the duo of Jarez ‘LAX’ Liburd and Jason ‘KT’ Kyte has reminded why they are being pegged as the favourite for the this segment of the Soca Competition, as they were one point behind Lil Miss’ 423.
Others moving on are Orin .Takeover’ Roberts, Shannakay ‘Shanna’ Raymond, Kyle ‘Daddy 2 Sec’ Roberts, Kanava ‘Foxy’ Pereira and Delison ‘X-Man’ Roper.
The Finals would be held at the Carnival Village at Warner Park.
