Balang's Bar broken into, money stolen

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – HAVING secured their bar on Saturday evening (Dec. 10) with the night’s earnings inside, the proprietors of Balang’s Bar were surprised to find that the building was broken into and the money stolen.

On that evening, a football match was being played in Warner Park and the bar – which is located in that area - was in operation to serve the attendees of the game.

Julian ‘Balang’ Morton, in an interview with SKNVibes, explained that after his wife had finished working at the bar, she stored her bag with the night’s earnings there and secured the premises at about 10:30p.m.

He said she then joined him in another area of Warner Park, Carnival Village, where the elimination round of the Calypso Monarch Competition was being held.

He further explained that after that second event concluded – just about two hours after initially securing the bar, she returned there only to find that it had been broken into and the money stolen.

“I was here, my wife was over there operating from the football section for football. After the game was finished she locked up and left everything there and came over by me. When over here was finished, she went back over there to get her bags – which had all the monies for the night in it – and she discovered that the back door was on the ground and her bag was gone.”

Balang’s wife quickly returned to Carnival Village where she informed him of what she had found. She also alerted one of the police officers who were stationed at the calypso event, who, according to Balang, called for assistance and the investigations began.

He explained that this is not the first time that the bar had been broken into and while he had put measures in place after the previous incident(s), it has become necessary to put additional measures in place to reduce the likelihood of such taking place again.
