BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SEVEN persons are currently in custody assisting pol;ice with their investigations into the break-in of the popular Polo Company Store located on Fort Street in the vicinity of the Circus.

According to a statement issued by the law enforcement agency, during their initial investigations it was revealed that around 3.00 a.m. on Monday (Dec. 12) “a concerned citizen observed that doors to the store were damaged and the building appeared to be ransacked”.

The incident was then reported to the Basseterre Police Station and the owners were notified, the statement said.

Word broke later that morning that the male merchandising company had been broken into, ransacked and burglarized.

From all indications the thieves had broken off the shutters, wedged open the door, disable the security system and made good their escape with their loot.

The police statement further stated that last evening (Dec. 12) a joint exercise was conducted amongst officers of the Criminal Investigations Department, the Special Services Unit, the Anti-Narcotic Unit and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force at which point search warrants were executed on a number of properties.

That exercise resulted in the recovery of a quantity of items deemed to be “of interest for the police and seven persons being taken into custody”.

The store remained closed yesterday but was reopened for business today after the proprietors restocked the outlet.

    Investigations are ongoing.
