KIER Group donates to Fire and Rescue Services

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - KIER GROUP, an internationally recognized brand with an office in St. Kitts and Nevis, yesterday (Dec. 13) donated a quantity of office equipment and supplies to the Basseterre Fire Service.

Among the items donated were a printer, projector and a laptop computer, which are expected to assist the Fire Service in the management of its office duties and fire prevention.

Deputy Fire Chief (Ag.) Abdias Samuel told reporters that the ceremony was an act of appreciation by the KOI Group of Companies in handing over the equipment to the Fire Service.

He noted that the timely gesture was for the excellent contribution that his agency made towards fostering a good relationship with the private sector organisation by ensuring that their establishment attained the required fire safety standards.

“We worked to ensure that all of their lines were flushed so that they can provide quality service. The KOI Group is here today (yesterday) to demonstrating the help and the commitment to the Fire Service in ensuring that we can also provide that quality service to the people who would need it.”

Explaining the specific uses of the donated items, Samuel stated that there is an ongoing fire prevention programme that is based on educating the general public in order for Fire Service to be better able to carry out its mandate.

“These items would be put to good use during the fire prevention programme,” he said.

Over the years, the Fire Service, headed by Fire Chief Everette O’Garro, has been making positive efforts to foster a relationship with private entities and citizens, so as to educate them by providing tips on fire prevention.

Additionally, they Service has been working along with companies to ensure that they are adhering to the fire prevention and building codes.

Earlier this year, staff members of the First Caribbean Bank in Basseterre were seen hastily running out of the building and a fire tender was parked outside, for what was later disclosed to be a fire drill organised by the Fire Service and management of the financial institution.

The fire prevention programme is one which seeks to ensure that homes and business entities have adequate fire prevention systems in place, Samuel said, while the Fire Service seeks to educate the general public about establishing fire plans in the event of an emergency.
