Press Release

VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, BVI - Just when basketball fans throughout the Virgin Islands thought the 2016 Basketball Season was all over, the Virgin Gorda Basketball Association has other plans.

This Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Jeffrey Caines Arena in Valley, Virgin Gorda will see a ‘Clash of the Titans’, when the two most talented teams from the two most popular Basketball Leagues in the Virgin Islands come up against each other.

    Money at stake for winner
It will be an exhibition show down for all the marbles between the 2016 Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League Championship team, Splash Brothers and the Virgin Gorda Summer Jam’s newly crown championship team, Up 2 Da Time.

The winning team will walk away with $1000.00 in cash. It will also be a clash of the two Leagues' MVPs, pitting the veteran basketball player Steve E. Parillon, the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed MVP, against the Summer Jam MVP Killven M. Samuel.

The trash talks have already begun between the two talented basketball players and the question is who will dunk on whom as the crowd is anticipating this exciting match up where youth vs experience will be on display.

President of the Virgin Gorda Basketball Association Mr Trevor M. ‘West’ Stevens and Commissioner of the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League Mr. Derrick R. Varlack have both confirmed  that everything is set and ready for the big show down this Saturday.

    Rules & other games
Mr Stevens further stated that one of the rules for both Championship teams is that “none of the teams can change players and must play with team members of their respective Championship Teams.” In other words, they cannot add anyone who was not a part of the championship teams when each league closed off their playoffs rosters.

In addition, Mr. Stevens said there will be two games before the big game on the night of December 17, 2016.

At 6:00 PM there will be an exhibition game between the under 8 boys. The next game tips off at 8:00 PM and will see the 2016 Summer Jam League’s B Division Championship team Time 2 Wuk going up against a Tortola All-star under 19.

Then at 10:00 PM it will be action time with Up 2 Da Time vs Splash Brothers, the highlight of the night.

    How to get there?

Meanwhile, there will be a boat by Speedy’s departing Virgin Gorda immediately after the last game to Trellis Bay, Beef Island. There is also a regular ferry leaving Trellis Bay, Beef Island for Virgin Gorda at 9:00 PM.
