Children’s Carnival:a colourful promotion of tourism

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kits – TWO days of jamming and stress relief, as part of the Sugar Mas 45 celebration, have gone and with two more to go, revellers are gearing up to hit the road again today (Jan. 2) for the Grand Parade.

This event provides an opportunity for the various troupes – backed by their favourite bands or hi-fi systems – to display their colours, costumes and adroitness on stage for the judges.

The participants of the Children’s Carnival – who had their street event on Saturday (Dec. 31) will be – as is the custom – would be joining their adult counterparts as part of the Grand Parade.

With “SKN to the World through the Eyes of Tourism” as the theme, the juniors promoted the Federation as a premier tourism destination and creatively featured a number of attractions which the twin-island Federation has to offer.

The sections featured on Saturday were: “SKN Ambassadors”, “Sun, Sea and Sand”, “Come Play”, “Local Culture”, “At Your Service”, and “Travel”.

The colourful and eye-catching pieces aptly portrayed the potential of the Federation and its offerings to potential tourists.

There was a bit of a challenge with this event as there was intermittent rainfall which made many question whether or not the event would be cancelled.

    Nonetheless, the show went on.

Jamming to the sounds of hi-fi systems and also the Impulse Band, the Children’s Parade began on the grounds of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College then moved off to Cayon Street, down Church Street, right onto College Street, left onto the Bay Road and up Fort Street before heading eastward along Cayon Street.

Along the route, it was observed that as showers of rain descended, the young revellers scampered for shelter, only to emerge when it was safe so to do.

Having turned into West Independence Square Street, the parade culminated at the Independence Square.

Folklore groups, as well as the SKN National Majorettes were also part of the event and all are expected to take part in today’s Grand Parade.
