Feathers and rhinestones tell stories on Grand Parade Day

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH the dust having settled on the Grand Parade activity which was held yesterday (Jan. 2), troupes and bands are anxiously anticipating the announcement of the winners for the Sugar Mas 45 street activities.

Mas makers and revellers seemed to have outdone themselves in putting on a brilliant, colourful, attention-grabbing display through the streets of the Federation’s capital.

Hundreds of individuals from the DFX, Karnival Splendor, Ultra, Banker’s and Fun Vibes mas camps engaged in focused revelry with each camp working to outdo the other.

From landmarks within the Basseterre area to Rio, each camp had a story to tell. And tell the story they did, with rhinestones, feathers, elaborate headdresses, attractive colour combinations and the willingness to let loose and have fun.

The scantily-clad revellers wasted no time in moving their ready waistlines to the musical entertainment provided by the bands and hi-fi systems which included the Nu Vibes Band Intl, the Small Axe Band, the Grand Masters Band and Real Right Entertainment.

With an attractive combined $61,500 up for grabs, the troupes are hoping to win big with the largest sum of money - $25,000 - to be distributed to the winner of the Troupe of the Year award.

The bands are also reportedly anticipating today’s announcement to find out whether the Small Axe Band would take the Road March title for the fifth consecutive year or whether another band can end its winning streak.

Win, lose or draw however, the feting masses would be setting the carnival trail ablaze again later today for the last time before heading back to their jobs with memories fresh on their minds.
