BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT is likely that drug-related charged would be preferred against an individual who, according to Police, entered the Federation via the airport with packets of cocaine in their body.
A press release which was issued by the Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Office explained that yesterday (Jan. 15) a “returning passenger at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport” was detained “on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance”.
The release explained that the individual “ingested a quantity of cocaine in the form of pellets” which were “passed out” while “under observation at the Joseph N. France General Hospital”.
According to the picture provided by the police, the pellets number in excess of 15. However no weight or value of the substance was given.
SKNVibes understands that the individual – said to be a man - was returning from St. Maarten.
“I commend the officers of Her Majesty's Customs Service and the officers of the Special Services Unit (SSU) and the Anti-Drug Unit. The willingness to share information and work together is evident in our recent success. I say well done, continue to be vigilant," Assistant Commissioner of Police Terrance James is quoted by the release as saying in relation to the incident.
This marks the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s first drug bust for the year.
