BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE days after the completion of the inaugural Giant Malt Relay Festival and the official results have not yet been declared.
The event was held at the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium on Sunday (Jan 15) under windy and rainy conditions. It saw participation from 10 learning institutions, clubs and sports teams and also from the National Relay Quartet in various age and exhibition activities.
Following a late start and weather-induced delays, the Washing Archibald High School (WAHS) fought hard to hold off its Charles E. Mills Secondary School (CEMSS) archrivals from the victory.
With the weather playing havoc with the Meet, organizers were catching up with the competition as it was running behind time.
Nearing the end of the Meet, with only three events to go, the WAHS had recorded nine gold medals to CEMSS’ five. Had the CEMSS won those three events, they would have amassed a total of eight gold medals, one less than the WAHS count.
It is believed, then, that the WAHS is the unofficial champion of the Meet but with the results still undeclared, the official winner is not known.
SKNVibes had made several calls over the past couple of days to the Festival’s organisers to ascertain whether or not the official results were available and was told that the Education Department was awaiting the submission of the results by the Meet Manager.
Meanwhile, on the track, CEMSS noticeably dominated the Distance Medley Relays on the women’s side.
Opening the competition in bright sunshine, the CEMSS Quartet blazed the track when they hammered their competitors, by lapping them twice on the track.
