BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - ON his first tour of St. Kitts – which lasted a few hours - President of the Confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean Federation (CONCACAF) was pleased with the infrastructure that the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association has in place.

During his visit today (Feb. 17), President Victor Montagliani  was taken to a number of sites including the Technical Center which is currently under construction in St. Peter’s and expressed pleasure with that and other facilities.

“It is actually very impressive…Obviously we know that there are a lot of challenges in a lot of the regions in CONCACAF, not only in the Caribbean and Central America. Infrastructure is always a challenge, but what I’ve seen here and the human work that is being done is quite impressive and I look forward to coming back and seeing the completion of this project here [Technical Center].”

While at the Center, which is said to be 80% complete, Montagliani told reporters that he came to visit the President of SKNFA, Anthony Johnson, and the football family, noting that part of his mission as President is to visit member associations which fall under the CONCACAF banner.

St. Kitts and Nevis is just one of the member associations that would be visited over the next several weeks.

“I think that it is important we live the motto that I was elected on, which is service…not about power… These visits are to ensure that football is first and that we are pushing the football agenda in all our member associations.”

The president also engaged government officials, explaining that the sport is one in which partnerships must be forged between officials and those at the helm of the country.

“I think football provides an opportunity for governments to partner with us. So, ours was about that and how we can help each other is those areas.”

SKNFA’s President, Anthony Johnson stressed that it was important that the Confederation’s president takes time out to see what was happening with football in St. Kitts and Nevis.

In expressing his sentiments on the visit, Johnson intimated that the discussions with the Ministry of Sports was fruitful and he was looking forward to continued discussions with the president.
